The Donnie Smith Gibson Chopper

The Donnie Smith Gibson Chopper

Three of the custom bike world's best builders teamed up with legendary guitar manufacturer Gibson to build three motorcycle-themed guitars and the bikes to match them. Dave Perewitz, Donnie Smith, and Arlen Ness each designed and built the Gibson themed combos that were unveiled at the 2004 Daytona Bike Week. The "Three Kings of Customs" brought their designs to Gibson in November 2003. "Choppers are real popular right now. I figured we might as well go with something real popular so we built that style of bike," Ness explained. "We used a lot of our accessories and did the sheet metal work. We made the tank big so there would be a nice area to paint the guitar on the top of the tank." Dave Perewitz got on the horn with another Hall of Famer - - - Aerosmith. After discussing design with them Perewitz went with a 1957 Les Paul Goldtop look alike that is accented by one of his signature paint jobs. Donnie Smith's guitar is heavily influenced by his motorcycle background. His design resembles the gas tank from the Gibson chopper - complete with gas cap. The oval shaped body has a pearl orange base coat of paint coupled with blue flames, which really bring the guitar to life. Each bike-guitar combo was revealed to over 150 VIPs and members of the press including, television crews from Speed Vision, E! Entertainment and the Travel Channel during Bike Week. Members of Lynyrd Skynyrd added an even more Rock n' Roll ambiance by helping with the unveiling. One of TC Muzique's Hosts, Kelly Moore, playfully posed with a guitar next to a matching air brushed bike at Donnie Smith's Motorcycle Invitational in the Xcel Center March 19-20.  The photo shoot was for the 2006 Narrows Saloon Calandar to be sold across the country.  Calendars will be sold at Narrows North on Saturday, June 25th where there will be an all day event featuring the girls in the calendar, motorcycles from Donnie Smith, 7 bands starting at 11 am, and much more.  A percentage of the proceeds from that music gala will go to research for kids who have cancer.

TC Muzique, a cable tv show out of the Twin Cities, has been promoting local music since 1988.  This nonprofit show may be the longest running "live music show" in the nation.  It broadcasts out of MTN, located in Southeast Minneapolis, on Thursday nights from 8:30-9:30 pm.  Under the supervision of Executive Producer, Art Roy, the show has a long history of having many well-known bands come in to showcase their talents such as GB Leighton, Gear Daddies, Willy Murphy, Armadillo Jump, and Big George Jackson. On Channel 17, TC Muzique invites bands of all genres of music to play rock n roll, jazz, latin, salsa, instrumental, or blues...something different each week to appeal to the huge fanbase it has accumulated over the years. The show has been a success for 17 years thanks to the volunteer staff who give their time to work on the show running the audio, video, and lighting.  TC Muzique plans to expand itself by doing promotional work on location in the near future for bands at a variety of venues.  If interested in contacting TC Muzique for any service or wanting a guest appearance by Mister Swizzo or Kelly Moore, go to their website at TCMUZIQUE.ORG or call 612-331-8575, ext 309.
